Ray’s Roofing Supply, a division of G.W. Murphy Inc., was established in 1977 and for the last 30 years has supplied many wholesalers, distributors and large and small contractors with discount products.
In 1977, at the age of 26, Gary Murphy Sr. decided to open his own business. Gary’s dream was to start a discount building supply store that focused on roofing materials & retail hardware. Well, he accomplished that goal & the business is still thriving today and has grown to include other locations:
Hammond, Indiana: G.W. Murphy, Inc., now doing business as “Ray’s Roofing Supply” was founded in 1977 in Hammond, Indiana. The business specializes in selling discount roofing, and other building materials.
Portage, Indiana: In 1981 G.W. Murphy, Inc., acquired a small business in Portage, Indiana by the name of “Portage Home Center”. The community hardware store offers retail hardware, building materials, paint and other related items.
Chicago, Illinois: On September 12, 2001, Gary Murphy, Inc., purchased a Chicago based company from one of his first customers, Transport Salvage Sales. The business recently underwent a complete interior and exterior remodel, and is in the process of changing its name to “Cottage Grove Hardware”. This community hardware store offers retail hardware, building materials, paint and other related items.
